On February 23, the American Michael James Dodd, 60, was extradited to his country of origin to face trial for the crime of child sexual abuse in Cambodia.
In 2009, Dodd was accused of solicitation of child prostitution and convicted for having intercourse with a 14-year-old girl, given maternal consent.
Dodd was also convicted in another case of soliciting child prostitution from a 16-year-old girl and sentenced to three additional years in prison. For both sentences, he should have served 13 years in prison in Cambodia.
Since 2003, American legislation (Protect Act) allows the extradition of nationals who have committed acts of sexual exploitation against minors in third world countries and be tried for those acts in the United States.
