The Police Task Force for Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection of Sihanouk Preah arrested R.A., a 51-year-old U.S citizen, on January 20. The provincial court of Sihanouk Preah proceeded with charges including the production of child pornography and drug possession.
Police arrested the American in response to a complaint by the girl's mother and after inspection of the home of R.A. During the police investigation, 34 CDs with photographs of the child and another girl were seized, 8 capsules of ecstasy, 9 grams of marijuana, as well as various sex toys.
The suspect confirmed that the minor was in his house and was given medicine for a cold, but denied having sexual relations with her.
The mother of the alleged victim stated that while in his home, the American ordered her daughter to undress. After refusing, he fed her some pills that left her unconscious.
On the other hand, a U.S. embassy spokesman said that if the defendant is found guilty of the charges in Cambodia, he should also be accountable for those actions in the U.S. Moden Yi, a Protect project officer, said the embassy assisted in the transfer of the girl to the capital for medical examination. The results of the medical examination will be released in the coming days. The lawyer for Protect will be requesting an extension for charges brought against the detainee. |
